A holey dish towel is not a sufficient substitute for a pot holder, especially when you are taking a heavy cookie sheet out of a 450 degree oven.
The huge blister I got right in the crook of my thumb joint is not only painful, but also very ugly.
I can just hear my old friend reminding me of his grandmother's wisdom: "If you're gonna be stupid, you'd better be tough"...
